Fairmont Grand Del Mar

Fairmont Grand Del Mar Review

The Fairmont Grand Del Mar, near San Diego, is an absolutely gorgeous resort with a Mediterranean feel, old-world charm, and modern conveniences. It's grand and elegant on every level, but at the same time comfortable and welcoming. Here are four things we loved the most:

THE MEDITERRANEAN FEEL
The architecture at The Grand is so impressive and really feels like a European estate. It's all there - terra cotta roof tiles and tower-like chimneys, doorway arches and curves, custom wrought iron railings, and stucco exterior. The landscaping of ornamental bushes, flowering plants and trees, and clipped hedges are pristine and well-maintained with endless opportunities for Instagram-worthy photos. The poolside details are fabulous. Red and white striped awnings, sun umbrellas, and lounge cushions add a fun and sophisticated pop of color and the beautiful mosaic tile work adds to the custom and luxurious feel.

THE DINING
The Grand has several options to choose from, ranging from casual to fine dining. Amaya - Californian cuisine with Italian influences and a fabulous outdoor terrace for al fresco dining. Addison - The Fairmont Grand Del Mar's signature Forbes' Five Star, AAA Five Diamond Relais & Châteaux restaurant with contemporary French influences and an extensive wine collection. The Clubhouse Grill - Located at The Grand Golf Club with a classic California-inspired menu. Other options for dining include Cent'Anni Cafe for grab and go options, The Lobby Lounge for drinks and light small-plates, 24-hour In-Room Dining, Poolside dining at the family-friendly Resort Pool, and Afternoon Tea in the Library and Lobby.

THE POOLS
All four pools at the Fairmont are heated to 81 degrees, the surroundings are beautiful, and the scene is relaxed. The Resort Pool is family-friendly, with underwater speakers and a 8-foot deep end that my husband and 12-year old son loved. The pool service is friendly and casual, with a Pool Bar and poolside menu that we enjoyed while soaking up the amazing California sunshine. Although they are small, I loved the two clover-shaped jacuzzis at the Resort Pool. For a quieter and more serene pool experience, head over to the gorgeous Relaxation Pool adjacent to the Spa for some serious lounging.

THE GOLF
Golfers will love The Grand Golf Club, Southern California's only Tom Fazio-designed course which is open to members, villa owners, and guests of The Fairmont Grand Del Mar. You will be assisted and guided through your round with a forecaddie, who will help you with strategy and distance, spot your balls, AND rake all your bunkers. It's not crowded and open all year-round... a golfer's dream!
